"What are the age, height and weight restrictions?"

Segway on Q has not set any specific age restriction but generally it's recommended for ages 10+. The handlebars are telescopic to cater for any height. Bodyweight plays the most important role as this is what controls the vehicle. While Segway Inc. have set a recommended weight range of 45-118kgs, from our experience we realise a wider range of riders are perfectly capable of controlling the Segway. ALL RIDERS MUST demonstrate a good level of control during the initial training session to proceed on an excursion. In almost 2yrs of operations, everyone has passed this test.

"Who invented the Segway?"

It's the brainchild of American 'inventor du jour' Dean Kamen. Often described as the modern-day Edison, he holds more than 150 patents for many inventions and technologies. He lives on his own island, flies his own helicopter to work each day and raised more than US$100 million to develop the Segway. It took nine years from conception to going on sale in March 2003. The Company Segway PLC is based in New Hampshire, USA, where it has its own manufacturing plant.

"How does it work?"

"Dynamic Stabilization" keeps it upright.  Gyroscopes, or gyros, are right at the heart of the Segway PT's self-balancing technology.  They sense balance 100 times per second.  Each wheel has it's own high-torque brushless DC (stepping) motor, and a microprocessor instructs each to rotate to prevent the Segway from falling over.

Amazing!  Most people can be riding a Segway PT in 30 seconds and have it feeling like a natural extension of their bodies within minutes.  Then you'll have such a big smile on your face you won't want to get off.

"How fast can it go?"

The #1 question everyone wants to know.  The Black Key is up to 9km/h. Yellow Key is up to 12km/h and up to 20km/h, when started with the Red Key!

"How far can a Segway go?"

16-36km, depending on the weight and riding style of the rider and terrain - climbing hills reduces the rage, but going down actually recharges the Li-Ion batteries!

"Where can it be used?"

The Segway moves safely and easily with, amongst and around people.  It's 'footprint' is smaller than the average person.  It can turn on the spot and can safely transverse concrete, grass, sand and snow.

"What is it used for?"

You can use the Segway to "move more intelligently" - ideal for traveling distances too far to walk, but when you don't need to take your car.  Commute a few kilometers to work using this low-impact, environmentally friendly method of transport.
